How to fix a Lenovo Thinkpad Compact/Slim keyboard plastic

I have two Lenovo Thinkpad Compact/Slim keyboards. One if them is USB and the
other is Bluetooth. I really really like them because they have almost the same
keyboard as my x230. But what I like most is the trackpoint/thinkpoint. Avoiding
mouse usage is great. Also more space in the table :).

BUT… in both of them my trackpoint was broken. I noticed that it was due to a
very small black plastic that was broken.

An amazing song by this japanese Trio, Cosmos:

<youtube-thumb videoid="HOh6qG4iT48">

Click to watch in YouTube (New tab)

</youtube-thumb>

Here in the comments we find some interesting info by the user seaboatsk:

Ms. Keiko Matsui, one of the three memembers of the band, is now teaching at a
college in Japan.
Removing JavaScript 3: Not adding it for YouTube

Still alive.

Today: Removing YouTube embedding. I saw something cool in the AAMSX web,
so I decided to copy that. The idea was to use
Lite YouTube,
however… I got many errors regarding the CSP (Content Security Policy), as it
is set to
null
and it was, again, including JavaScript. So fuck it.

So instead I did this Hugo shortcode:

{{- $videoId := trim (.Get 0) " " -}}

<youtube-thumb videoid="{{ $videoId }}">
    <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v={{ $videoId }}" target="_blank"><img
        src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/{{ $videoId }}/hqdefault.jpg" alt="YouTube
        Link" style="border: #FFFFFF 4px double;"></a>
<p><center><small>Click to watch in YouTube (New tab)</small></center></p>
</youtube-thumb>

And if you put this in
layouts/shortcodes/youtube-thumb.html
, you’ll be able
to use it as {{< youtube-thumb VIDEO_ID >}} and you’ll get the video thumbnail
in JPG and be able to click on it to watch it. The
target="_blank"
makes it to
open a new tab. I kind of like it. It’s less functional compared to
lite youtube
, but it works and it does not add JavaScript on our side.

One of my two smart feeders (the newest) was bumping and having problems putting
the feed to my cats. After a lot of time, I went up online and found a Reddit
post
that had very valuable information.

Some users had good luck removing the rubber bands from the spinning part of the
feeder, but the user Set-Condition-5 wrote the following:

Team, while removing the rubber guards helped, it turned out our jamming
problem was caused by the screw that connects the white main gear you see when
you remove the top housing ( the half with the food) to the motor being
completely loose. If you remove the small white cap on the gear you can access
the screw and tighten. This stops the gear from raising up which was causing our
jamming.

This screw is this one (click on the image to get a color one ;)):
<dith-img>

</dith-img>

Lately, I’m into Citypop. As everyone else.

It’s familiar. It’s groovy. It’s soothing. It connects with a lot of people and
gives you a very positive feeling.

I follow the YouTube Channel Music Radar Clan
which is an excellent channel where the creator does small documentaries on a
variety of topics related to music and musicians. If you understand Spanish, I
highly recommend it.

In his video on Citypop he showed
how this genre was the portrait of a growing economy and positivism that
Japan lived in the 80s. Consumerism was everywhere, all was good as there was
money and things to do with it. It was a golden age for the people living there
apparently.

Removing JavaScript 2: The revenge

Hello!
I’m still alive.

Just 2 years after our first edition of kicking out javascript
here we are again, reducing the size and processing time of the website.

Yes, it was pretty light but we can go FURTHER! Also we want this to be viewable
by obsolete browsers, of course. New things are not always progress when we can
simplify.

The only javascript that I had at this moment was the
highlight.min.js
, a
javascript code in charge of handling code highlights. Some time ago I
discovered that Hugo has now included Chroma
for syntax highlighting. This is done in compile time and colored with just a
CSS file, so… I was up to try it.

Susumu Hirasawa appreciation post. Yet another electrical hit from Kaku P-Model.
I really appreciate how the works alone by Susumu Hirasawa are completely
different from Kaku P-Model, yet they share a lot of things.

Greetings everyone!

A couple of weeks ago I got a Sony HitBit 10p from a mechanical keyboard
enthusiast from the University, a great guy :). He know where to leave MSX
things. There was a particular issue: There was no power supply. After changing
one power supply for a Sony HB-T7 I thought
that it would not be much of a problem. And actually it was not!

I found a tutorial in spanish on how to do this with a phone charger.
As you can see in the video, what he does is to use a soldering point below the
switch connector to solder a 5v input.

Welcome to the longest post to the date in this blog!

Today we have something very random: Thoughts about searching in Google. At 5AM
with Massive Attack! (Mezzanine is a great Album)

Have you ever been in a position where you want to find a piece of daily life
information like “How to be more spontaneous/escape routine” or “How to
improve my sleep”? And boom! You get like a bazillion results. Compelling,
right? A lot of stuff to read, much information. That’s great, that’s the power
of the Internet.

Hello!

I’m trying to convert images so that they are lighter. I got the idea from
Low-Tech Magazine and got some help and
information from a good guy.

Using ImageMagick:

convert input.jpg -set colorspace Gray -ordered-dither o8x8 -colors 2 output.gif

From this image:

We get this one:

From 72KB to 16KB. Looks a lot like the gameboy camera actually. There are other
dithering algorithms, but for this photo the ordered-dither gave the best
picture.

Lately I have been only posting music. We’ll, that’s what I like to do at the
moment, so… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This time I bring you Osamu Sato’s Transmigration. It’s a weird album mixing
pseudo-futuristic sound with strange folk chants. I haven’t played through all
the Osamu Sato’s Tong-Nou, a superb weird experience into his mind made into a
game, however the first song is clearly the opening theme.

I hope you enjoy. Also give a chance to that game while thinking on Buddhist
concepts like samsara (mind those 30 days you get offered to get your soul
back).

In this post I’ll introduce MSXHub and how to use it in a very “linuxy” way just
by organizing our packages a bit. You’ll need an MSX with MSX-DOS (probably in a
flashcart) along with a network card and your fingers.

Introduction to MSXHub

MSXHub is a superb repository tool for our MSX Systems that allows us to
download MSX software (tools, games…) directly from our MSX without needing a
computer. We just need a UNAPI compatible network card and a flashcart to run
the software over MSX-DOS.

By default weechat doesn’t support multiline messages, but you can have that
using the multiline.pl.
In order to install it just run weechat and write /script. There you’ll see a
lot of nice scripts to customize weechat. Write multiline and press return to
filter the plugins by that keyword. Then just select it if it’s not selected
already and then write i then return. Then you’ll have multiline enabled
:).

I tried to install
librtlsdr-dev
package and for some reasons I got a nasty
error:

> sudo apt-get install librtlsdr-dev
...
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
librtlsdr-dev : Depends: libusb-1.0-0-dev but it is not installable

I noticed that there was no lib-usb-1.0-0-dev package, so the repository is
inconsistent. So what I did was to install the package from Debian Stretch that
can be downloaded from
here.

You can install it as follows:

Probably one of my favourites amongst Boards of Canada sounds. The ambient fits perfectly with the setting described in the book,
most of it quite unsettling, yet really enjoyable.

<youtube-thumb videoid="GNb-ODwSA40">

Click to watch in YouTube (New tab)

</youtube-thumb>

Hellllooooo everyone!

I’m alive, again. Maki asked me to make a blog post about how we changed the MSX
HitBit T7 japanese power supply unit (from now on PSU) for a more modern and european one. So, let’s do
this.

Update (2020-05-29): Victor Muñoz tutorial

Victor Muñoz followed this post (plus the discussion we have had on email) and
did this mod. He has shared with me a PDF containing the tutorial he has made.
So check this for additional notes and photos so it’s clearer.

Lately I have been using a lot CLI (Command Line Interface) applications for
everything, mainly because they enhance the just keyboard user expirence along
with a great functionallity with a low resource footprint. Yes, it may be harder
to use them and harder to configure, but I think the outcome is satisfiying.

I will introduce a bit the applications and where to start without much detail,
because there’s a lot of documentation already available :).

Hello!

It has been a while since the last post. Yes I’m alive.

So, in this post I will introduce you to two marvelous concepts:

BitlBee

IRC on an MSX with an TCP/IP UNAPI compatible network card.

Let’s begin…

Introduction

Why would you do that? I mean, there are more efficient ways to communicate with other people that require less effort, right?

Well, here are my two cents for the first point, BitlBee. BitlBee is a service that acts as a gateway for several instant messaging services, e.g. Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts or Slack. Ok, but… a gateway to what? IRC, of course.

MSX2 Sony HB-F5: SCART to Japanese21

We have adapted a standard European SCART cable to use it with an MSX2 HB-F5. You have to change the pins of one of the ends (the connector that will be on the MSX) as follows:

**SCART – Japanese21

** X means not connected.

1 – X

2 – 6

3 – X

4 – 3

5 – 8

6 – 2

7 – 20

8 – X

9 – 7

10 – X

11 – 19

12 – X

13 – 13

14 – 14

15 – 15

16 – 16

17 – 17

18 – 18

19 – X

20 – 10

WHILE - FOR:

We usually use
B
as counter. The main trick here is that
DJNZ
decrements the
counter in
B
and then checks, so that you don’t need to do two operations.

<pre tabindex="0" Specially with SparkR (Apache Spark 2.1.0).

When using the gapply function, maybe you want to return the key to mark the results in a function as follows:

countRows <- function(key, values) {
    df <- data.frame(key=key, nvalues=nrow(values))
    return(df)
}

count <- gapplyCollect(data, "keyAttribute", countRows)

countRows <- function(key, values) {
    df <- data.frame(key=key, nvalues=nrow(values))
    return(df)
}
count <- gapplyCollect(data, "keyAttribute", countRows)

SURPRISE.

Hey!

Recently I bought a broken 75P just for fun (and well, it was cheap :)). It had a video problem which, after reading a couple of msx.org posts (Hit-bit With Broken Graphics and 75P black screen mainly), I believed it was a problem of VRAM as Grauw pointed.

That was a clever way to debug it. Watching how Basic characters are output, you can see which bit is broken in the ASCII chart. Why can you point to which bank is failing if a bit fails?

asMSX bugfix 1: Ifs on .megarom

Hello!

Finally some improvements on asMSX. At the start of this project JamQue told me that he had issues using ifs when the “.megarom” clause is active. The issue correction can be seen here in Github.

The problem was that when generating a byte (for example, an LD instruction) it checks if it is able to generate it if the condition established for this level allows it.

Original:

guardar_byte(b)
{
if ((!conditional_level)||(conditional[conditional_level]))
if (type!=MEGAROM)
{
...some code...
}
if (type==MEGAROM)
{
...some code...
}

The first if will only affect the if(type!=MEGAROM) as it doesn’t provide brackets to define a block, therefore it will get only the next sentence. Also instead of doing if(type==MEGAROM) I just did an else.

The code is the following:

Understanding asMSX Volume 2: lex.l

Welcome back to the mystery machine!

Today, the spooky lex.l. As we saw in the previous post this file is full with constants, but to be more precise this is the file where you tell how to treat every string found. In fact, constants are not defined in this file but in dura.y,

For example:

“ld return MNEMO_LD”: Whenever you find a string
that’s which characters ld, treat is as a token with value MNEMO_LD
(Mnemotechnic for Load instruction).

“0x[0-9a-f]+ yylval.val=(int)strtol(yytext,NULL,16);return
NUMERO;”: Whenever you find 0x followed by 1 or more characters from the
set {0-9a-f} (hence, hex), transform them to a long int (as strol can treat
hex values directly) and then to an int and set it to the yylvval, which is
the flex’s return value, and return that this token is a number.

So as you have seen, at least in this case, Flex is the one that is in charge of
understanding the meaning of each token as defined in this file.

Hello!

Welcome to another trip into another dark cave. Today we meet asMSX, an
assembler for MSX’s Z80 made by Pitpan and bought and released with GPL
license by cjv99 (Thanks!).

Motivation

It’s known that this assembler has some bugs, e.g. skipping IFDEFs when
using MegaROM so there is an interest on knowing the internals of the code in
order to fix this kind of bugs. My goal is not directly fixing bugs of this code
but to provide more information about the code so all the people from the
community may get themselves the code and fix it if there are any new bugs.

On R and parallelism

R, that language that is has gained its momentum due to the people discovering
the need of analyzing data. There are other several alternatives but this is my
poison (or poisson!) of choice. In this post we will try to cover how to
parallelize your R code with the package parallel.

Why bother?

One of my main concerns when I was starting with R is that WOW!
Everything runs in one thread!. I was amazed by the fact that the
language was still being used with that issue inside. How fool I was!
Parallelism is doable in R. But, why must we bother about it? If we were still
living in the era where we only had one core inside the CPU it won’t be an
issue, but some smart guys thought that there was an issue when trying to set
higher frequencies to the CPUs (power consumption mainly) and they decided to
put more CPUs in a chip instead of going to a single faster core. That has been
our paradigm for a couple of years and it appears to be working, right?
